We calculate Smart Charging Savings by showing how much money you save on your energy consumption when you use ev.energy’s technology to shift your charging from ‘Peak’ energy pricing windows to ‘Off-peak’ pricing windows.
Energy Pricing
As of 20th October, 2023, national domestic energy pricing is at an
average of £0.28 per kWh (up from £0.28 kWh in October 2022). Peak and Off-Peak charging rates are based on the national average across a rang of energy providers in the UK (£0.33 Peak rate and £0.09 Off-Peak rate). Please note: Our calculations do not account for the daily standing charge that users may pay in addition to their energy costs.
Peak and Off-Peak Times
The most frequent peak times tend to be weekdays between 6pm-9pm, however there is no fixed rule. Off-peak can be at any time, depending on the weather and renewable generation on the grid. Often in the UK, this is overnight when there is an abundance of wind, or around lunchtime at the weekend when the sun is shining. At ev.energy, we take care of tracking this complexity for you, ensuring you always charge at the cheapest and greenest time.
ev.energy Technology CapabilitiesThrough multiple trials and ev.energy app data, we have shown that ev.energy has the capability to shift energy from the average peak service window up to 100% (6pm-9pm). The above calculations are based on a
97% shift in energy from peak to off-peak pricing (Bloomberg ‘A review of real-world data from ev.energy’s smart charging platform’, October 2021).
