Beginning January 1, 2023, the SmartCharge New York program will transition to a new platform run by Con Edison’s software partner, ev.energy.
To continue participating in SmartCharge New York and earning incentives for charging your EV(s) in the Con Edison service area, please review these terms & conditions (T&Cs). If you agree to all the T&Cs, follow the steps below.
1. Download the ev.energy app
2. Create an account and
enter the referral code: SCNY
After downloading the ev.energy app, open the “Create account” screen to create an account with ev.energy. Be sure to enter an email address you already have on record with SmartCharge New York, set a secure password, and tap the "Have an invite code?" text at the bottom of the screen. Enter the referral code "SCNY" (note, this isn’t case-sensitive) to enjoy the full program benefits and start earning incentives beginning January 1, 2023. You should then see "SCNY" confirmed at the bottom of the "Create account" screen.

3. Enter your home address, as well as primary charging location in the Con Edison service area
After creating your ev.energy account, confirm your primary charging location in the Con Edison service area. Drop a pin on the map identifying the location where you usually charge your EV(s), and allow ev.energy to access your location while using the app. Once you do that, we'll ask you to confirm the address on the following screen. As a reminder, only charging done within Con Edison's service area will be eligible for cash incentives through the SmartCharge New York program.
4. Tell us about your electric vehicle(s)
Next, you’ll need to connect either an internet-connected vehicle, or an internet-connected home charger, to ev.energy for data collection. We’ll first ask you about your electric vehicle make, model, and trim. If the vehicle manufacturer offers an internet connection that ev.energy can connect to, you’ll be prompted to enter your connected-car account login details. ev.energy will not be able to see or store your username or password; these will be passed directly to the auto manufacturer in exchange for a digital token that allows ev.energy to wirelessly access your vehicle’s charging data, similar to signing into a new website using your Google or Facebook account.

5. Connect your EV charger
If you own a ChargePoint or Enel X charging station with an internet connection, you will be able to connect your charger to ev.energy for SCNY program participation even without a connected vehicle. We’ll calculate your eligibility for SCNY incentives based on the data coming from this connected charging station.
If you have a ChargePoint, press the green ‘I have a home charger’ button, select ChargePoint from the list, and follow the on-screen setup instructions. You may be asked to open your the ChargePoint app on your mobile phone to authorize ev.energy to collect data from your charging station.
If you have an Enel X charger, press the white ‘I have something else’ button, and enter the 25-28 digit JuiceBox ID in the text field. You can find your JuiceBox ID in the Enel X mobile app by opening the menu in the upper-right corner and selecting ‘Device Settings.’ You will see your JuiceBox Device ID, which you can copy into the text field in the ev.energy app.
You can also find your JuiceBox ID on the side label located on your JuiceBox charger. After you’ve entered your JuiceBox ID, tap‘Continue.’ You will need to wait 1-2 business days for Enel X to validate yourcharger before your enrollment SCNY will be complete, and until that happens you won’t be able to progress any further with enrollment in the ev.energy app. Don’t worry, we will work with Enel X to collect your charging and calculate any SCNY incentives from the day you create your ev.energy account.

6. Confirm your participation in the new SmartCharge New York program
You will be prompted to select Con Edison as the Partner Supplier for this program. Select “Con Edison”, and then select “SmartCharge New York” as your energy rate. This will ensure you receive cash incentives for EV charging in Con Edison service area while enrolled in the program beginning January 1,2023.
You’re all set! You’ll be taken to the main program Dashboard, where you can view the connectivity status of your vehicle and/or charging station to the ev.energy platform along with a summary of all the charging you’ve been doing from the date you created your ev.energy account. SmartCharge New York incentives will be paid out on a quarterly basis, so expect to hear from us next around March 2023 with a summary of the incentives you’ve earned and options to claim your cash.
