NYSEG and RG&E, Avangrids’ New York utilities, needed to balance the electrical grid and drive down energy costs with a high-quality program that appeals to the diverse communities in their service territories. Yet, restrictive telematic controls for several popular EV models limited the program’s potential reach, impact, and value for money.
Solution
With OptimizEV, powered by ev.energy, NYSEG and RG&E provided an equitable managed charging program with a passive tier to incentive grid-friendly charging habits with broad coverage, plus an active tier to automatically optimize charging on the drivers’ behalf. The program provides higher rewards to drivers with more grid value. OptimizEV is set to reach over 3,395 drivers by 2025 - over 70% of which will be on the advanced tier.
