Thank you for being part of Con Edison’s SmartCharge New York program!
SmartCharge New York helps EV drivers like you get the most out of their ride:
Earn cash for charging your electric vehicle at off-peak times
Track your EV’s energy consumption over time
Help reduces stress on the energy grid, ensuring more reliable service for everyone
Beginning January 1, 2023, the SmartCharge New York program will transition to a new platform run by Con Edison’s software partner, ev.energy.
To continue participating in SmartCharge New York and earning incentives for charging your EVs in the Con Edison service area, please review these terms & conditions (T&Cs). If you agree to all the T&Cs, follow the steps below.
1. Download the ev.energy app
2. Create an account and enter the referral code: SCNY
After downloading the ev.energy app, open the “Create account” screen to create an account with ev.energy. Be sure to enter an email address you already have on record with SmartCharge New York, set a secure password, and tap the "Have an invite code?" text at the bottom of the screen. Enter the referral code "SCNY" (note, this isn’t case-sensitive) to enjoy the full program benefits and start earning incentives beginning January 1, 2023. You should then see "SCNY" confirmed at the bottom of the "Create account" screen.

3. Enter your home address, as well as primary charging location in the Con Edison service area
After creating your ev.energy account, confirm your primary charging location in the Con Edison service area. Drop a pin on the map identifying the location where you usually charge your EV(s), and allow ev.energy to access your location while using the app. Once you do that, we'll ask you to confirm the address on the following screen. As a reminder, only charging done within Con Edison's service area will be eligible for cash incentives through the SmartCharge New York program.
4. Connect your first vehicle
Next, you’ll need to connect your first vehicle for data collection, so have your connected-car account login details ready. ev.energy will not be able to see or store your username or password; these will be passed directly to the auto manufacturer in exchange for a digital token that allows ev.energy to wirelessly access your vehicle’s charging data, similar to signing into a new website using your Google or Facebook account.
Please note that some auto manufacturers may require drivers to pay a one-time or ongoing fee for connected-car access. Every auto manufacturer’s platform is different, and the accuracy of the data collected from your car’s embedded SIM card may vary accordingly. As a reminder, participation in SmartCharge New York is voluntary, Con Edison cannot guarantee the accuracy of the data collected, and Con Edison is not responsible for any fees you may incur for connected-car access.
Select the make, model and trim of the first vehicle you’d like to enroll in SCNY. You’ll need to create a new ev.energy app account for each additional vehicle you want to enroll from a different manufacturer (for example, a Tesla and a BMW)- but more on that later. For now, follow the on-screen instructions to authorize ev.energy to collect data while your vehicle is plugged in and charging, for the purposes of calculating and administering SCNY incentives. Please Ignore any prompt for start/stop control; ev.energy will not control your vehicle’s charging and it is your responsibility to ensure your EV charge during off-peak hours to earn SCNY incentives.

5. Tell us about your charger
Once you've successfully connected your first vehicle to ev.energy in the previous step, there is no need to also connect your home charger. However, we ask that you provide us with information on your home charging set-up, which we will use to guide ev.energy toward future partnerships with EV charger manufacturers. At the "How do you charge at home?" screen, click "I have something else" and type in the make and model of home charger, if relevant and you know it.
6. Confirm your participation in the new SmartCharge New York program
You will be prompted to select Con Edison as the Partner Supplier for this program. Select “Con Edison,” and then select “SmartCharge New York” as your energy rate. This will ensure you receive cash incentives for EV charging in Con Edison service area while enrolled in the program beginning January 1, 2023.

7. Repeat Steps 2-6 to connect additional vehicles from different manufacturers
The ev.energy app does not yet support a customer connecting multiple EVs from different manufacturers (for example, a Tesla and a BMW) to the same ev.energy account. If, after following the above instructions, there is an additional vehicle from a different manufacturer that you'd like to enroll in SmartCharge New York, tap on the cog on the top-left corner of the app's main Dashboard to access your settings, and click the "Log Out" button at the bottom. You'll need to create a new ev.energy account using a different email address for each additional vehicle you'd like to enroll (and don't forget to enter the "SCNY" referral code!).
After you've finished connecting your vehicles, take a look around the app’s main program Dashboard, where you can view the connectivity status of your vehicles to the ev.energy platform, their battery levels and status, and a summary of all the charging you’ve been doing from the date you created your ev.energy account. SmartCharge New York incentives will be paid out on a quarterly basis, so expect to hear from us next around March 2023 with a summary of the incentives you’ve earned and options to claim your cash.
