SOUTHAMPTON, UK— Igloo Energy has joined forces with ev.energy to provide its customers free electric vehicle (EV) smart charging. The challenger energy supplier is offering all new customers on its single tariff a total of 1,200 free miles worth of charging via its Smart EV app, powered by ev.energy.
ev.energy’s app allows Igloo customers to plug in their EVs and set a deadline of when they need it charged by, for instance by the morning when they have to go to work. ev.energy’s platform will then ensure the car is charged using the cleanest possible mix of energy available from the grid, reducing carbon emissions from electricity generation by up to 20% over the course of a year.
Nick Woolley, CEO of ev.energy, said: “For a typical user driving 8,000 miles a year, we can reduce the carbon emissions of charging their electric vehicle by 20%. Over a year this equates to 150 kilogrammes of carbon dioxide or a flight from London to Berlin on a plane.”
Igloo Energy’s chief executive Matt Clemow, said: “We’re always looking for ways to help our customers reduce how and when they use energy, while minimising the effort our customers need to put in to do so. Our new app links to the existing Tesla electric car account to further reduce its carbon footprint, and it requires minimum effort on the customer’s part. The electricity grid in the UK is supplied by many different types of generation, whether that be renewables like wind, solar or hydro through to dirtier fuels like coal and gas. By setting your car to recharge when the generation that’s actually supplying the grid is as clean as possible it cuts actual carbon emissions – making journeys even cleaner.”
