Helen Tomlinson, our VP of People & Talent, reflects on the women driving change at ev.energy.

International Women’s Day is a moment to recognize the women driving innovation, collaboration, and transformation across industries. At ev.energy, we’re tackling one of the world’s biggest challenges—decarbonizing transportation and energy—with a team of passionate and talented individuals. Today, I’m proud to spotlight some of the incredible women at ev.energy who are making a real difference in our mission to connect everyone to cheaper, greener, and simpler EV charging.

Meet the Women Leading the Charge

Carenza Harvey – Group Product Manager

"As Group Product Manager, I focus on making the ev.energy driver experience as powerful and user-friendly as possible. My job is to ensure that EV drivers save money, time, and carbon emissions while enjoying a smooth smart charging experience.

One of my favorite projects has been developing our solar smart charging features. This required an incredible cross-functional effort, bringing together our scheduling algorithms, real-time solar production data, and intuitive design. Seeing drivers ‘power their cars with sunshine’ has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my career.

I love the people I work with - everyone is passionate, talented, and kind. We’re also a very international team. While I’m based in London, many of my teammates are in Spain. A recent highlight was co-working in Barcelona and Madrid.

I was drawn to the EV sector because it’s the future—technologically cutting-edge, but also mission-driven. It’s inspiring to work in a field where innovation directly benefits people and the planet."

Libby Brown – Legal Counsel

"As Legal Counsel, I help navigate commercial agreements, regulatory compliance, and risk management. My role ensures ev.energy scales responsibly while maintaining integrity in our mission to accelerate smart EV charging solutions.

A project I’m particularly proud of is my work with our B-Corp team, the B-Keepers. Strengthening our governance framework to align with the highest standards of transparency and accountability has been incredibly rewarding. Our commitment to sustainability isn’t just a talking point—it’s embedded in everything we do.

One of my favourite memories at ev.energy was our Hackathon during the 2024 London Team Week. I worked with colleagues I hadn’t met before, bringing different perspectives and skill sets together. It was a fast-paced, creative problem-solving environment, and I came away with a deep appreciation for the incredible work happening across the company.

Being part of a green tech company means that every contract I review and every policy I refine contributes to a cleaner, more sustainable future. It’s challenging and deeply meaningful work."

Lauren Simpson – Talent Lead

At ev.energy, my role has been focused on attracting and engaging top talent to help us achieve our ambitious goals, while ensuring an exceptional candidate experience. Over time I've worn some additional hats, including projects related to onboarding and talent development, all aimed at helping our team grow and thrive.

One of my proudest accomplishments was doubling our team shortly after we raised our Series B. It was no easy feat, but we successfully onboarded 52 talented individuals, maintained a 35-day time-to-hire, and did this almost entirely through direct recruitment. Together, we’ve built a team that’s not only highly skilled but also kind, thoughtful, and incredibly switched-on. Knowing I played a role in shaping this team is deeply fulfilling.

I studied Geography and always wanted to have a positive impact on the environment. This is my first role in climate tech, and it’s been incredibly rewarding to spend each day towards a goal aligning with my personal values. My journey at ev.energy has shown me just how much the right people working together can create lasting change.

Lyric Gibson – Customer Success Advocate

"I make sure that customer queries are answered and resolved promptly, lead program-specific customer calls, and provide training and tools for new joiners.

One of the highlights of my time at ev.energy has been working with our California-based Community Choice Aggregators (CCAs) on our solar initiatives. More recently, I’ve had the chance to help lead Customer Success as we integrated Rolling Energy Resources programs with ev.energy, which has been an exciting challenge.

Our end-of-year highlights and trivia meetings are my favorite memories—so many joyous faces to see!

Being part of a company that’s actively making the world greener is incredibly fulfilling. I love knowing that the work we do today will benefit future generations."

Emma Friesner – Hardware Connectivity Tech Lead

"My job is to ensure that our platform connects seamlessly with EV chargers and vehicles, enabling smart charging to be more efficient and reliable. Over the last year, I’ve been focused on standardizing our platform to improve hardware integrations and user experience.

I’ve been coding since high school and have always been drawn to projects that have a tangible impact. After taking an Environmental Studies course in college, I knew I wanted to apply my engineering skills to climate action. But when I first entered the workforce, there weren’t many tech companies in this space. When I found ev.energy, I knew it was the perfect fit—a software-first company making a direct impact on reducing emissions through smart charging.

Living in New York, I’ve been fortunate to work at our hardware lab in the Brooklyn Navy Yard. It’s an incredible space, filled with climate tech startups, and being part of that ecosystem keeps me inspired. It’s been fun helping build the lab and test real physical products. We have quite a few New Yorkers on the team, it’s been fun to co-work and meet up for the occasional happy hour!

Ana Jimenez - Lifecycle Marketing Manager

"As a Lifecycle Marketing Manager, I focus on engaging and acquiring drivers through strategic communication initiatives. My role revolves around crafting messaging and campaigns that guide users from initial activation to long-term retention, ensuring they understand and experience the value of ev.energy's products.

One project that stands out to me is refining our approach to engaging new users during program releases. By testing different messaging strategies and marketing assets, I’ve been able to identify what resonated most with users, improving activation and success.

What attracted me to ev.energy was my desire to work in an industry tackling environmental challenges head-on. Working for a green tech company allows me to contribute to a future where clean energy solutions are more accessible, and I am part of a team making a real difference.

One of my favorite memories at ev.energy was our team weeks. Though we’re a fully remote company, these in-person meetups feel like a school trip—fun, intense, and energizing all at once. My very first day at ev.energy coincided with a team week, making it an unforgettable start to my journey here."

Talat Rani - Engineering Manager Quality Assurance

"As an Engineering Manager - Quality, I lead a team of engineers to ensure the highest standards of product quality and reliability. My role involves overseeing testing processes, implementing quality assurance strategies, and maintaining consistent product performance across multiple platforms.

One project I’m particularly proud of is leading the implementation of automation across all our core and white-label apps. This initiative streamlined testing, reduced manual effort, and improved efficiency. It allowed us to maintain consistent quality and accelerated release cycles.

I joined the tech industry with a passion for innovation and problem-solving, but working for a green tech company gave my career deeper meaning. The opportunity to drive positive environmental change through technology truly resonated with me. Seeing the impact of our work on reducing carbon emissions is a powerful reminder that every line of code can contribute to a sustainable future.

One of my favourite memories at ev.energy was during Team Week. Spending time together outside of our usual work setting allowed us to strengthen our bonds as a team. Whether brainstorming or having fun, it reminded me that we’re not just colleagues, but a passionate, supportive group.”

Ally Marsh - Program Manager

"As a Program Manager, I oversee the delivery and coordination of complex managed charging programs, ensuring cross-functional initiatives run smoothly while upholding ev.energy's core values in everything we do.

One project that has been especially exciting for me is ChargeWise. Backed by funding from the California Energy Commission’s REDWDS grant, ChargeWise aims to build a 300MW Virtual Power Plant (VPP) by 2027 by integrating EVs with California’s power grid. This initiative is helping the state meet its clean energy goals, improve access to affordable charging, and reduce energy bills for participants. Recently, we advanced our partnership with community choice aggregators MCE and Silicon Valley Clean Energy (SVCE) to launch dynamic rate tiers as part of this groundbreaking project.

What I love most about ev.energy is that it is a values-driven organization. We stay true to those values, even when it’s not always the easiest or most convenient choice. It’s incredibly motivating to work for a company that aligns with my own principles of making a positive impact.”
